The Briefs
He was reared by Sophie Hukom, a single mother from Purwokerto and Magelang in Central Java. Atis was born in Makassar, South Sulawesi Province's capital city, a city he cherishes.

His mother sent him to live with relatives in the United States, the Aponno family. Andy began his high school study in America. He enrolled in a private school, Maranatha High School, in the city of Arcadia, California, USA. He then grew up in Arcadia before migrating to numerous Los Angeles areas.
Passion for music is unmistakable, and it grew even stronger when he was accepted into Michael Sembello’s (the first Italian American producer for Motown Records) music camp. Andy learned a variety of music skills at the camp, including but not limited to songwriting, music composition, music arrangement, and production. He also had the opportunity to learn the science of vocal technique, known as Speech Level Singing (SLS), from Michael and other vocal coaches such as John Deaver, Janice Macy, Elizabeth Sabine, and Chip Hand. Andy received full financial support from his schoolmates, Cokky Silitonga, Bambang Bernanthos, Denny Rinaldi, and Rizal Risjad, who were all Indonesian diasporas living in Los Angeles at the time, during his four years at the Sembello camp.

THE MAKING OF THE FIRST ALBUM IN ASIA

Jesse Lantang, a long-time friend of Andy’s, came to see him in December 2012 and told him that it was time for him to finish his vacation and return to work. Andy smiled and inquired of Jesse, "What was that supposed to mean?" Jesse essentially wants Andy to return to the forefront of the music industry and stop working behind the scenes.

"A chair is designed to be sat in, not stood on," Jesse said, as Atis recalled. So Jesse hired Atis to produce his album and agreed to call it Atis and the Tradewind.

Andy finished all of the music arrangements and compositions two years later. Except for two songs (key fillers for Nadya Sella Belansky’s Single Version Please, Come To Bali, and Searching for Love), Andy wrote the rest of the songs with the help of Ludwig Makasutji on drums, Joshua Risakotta on bass, and Eben Andreas on lead guitar. Five females with amazing angelic voices provided additional assistance: Meivys Sahili, a singer from Cuba, with her amazing vocal tone; Eva Munadi, a gospel singer from Jakarta, with her powerful voice; Bianca and Athina Nelwan, with amazing voices and harmony; and Anna Latuharhary, with her sweet voice.
For the song "Please Come To Bali," Atis collaborated with Nadya Belansky on keys, Nino Luhukay on electric guitar, and Ludwig Makasutji on drums. It was released as the first single and on iTunes.

Andy and the label both agreed on the title "The Beginning of the End." That name can be interpreted in a number of different ways. To Atis, this means that his behind-the-scenes roles in the industry have come to an end, and it is now time for the general public to hear his music.

"I hope the music lovers in Indonesia will appreciate and enjoy this album."

Jesse asked Atis to collaborate on a song early in the production. The basic concept of the song is about a couple who fall in love on the island of Bali and want to meet again the following summer. Jesse provided the initial lyric ideas, which Andy revised several times before writing the song’s melody. Andy then wrote and orchestrated the music for the song.

The song "Please, Come To Bali" was the first to be rushed to completion and released as a single on iTunes on November 23rd, 2013.

Jesse and Atis had no idea their song would be chosen as the theme song for the "Bali Tourism Promotion Board’s" (BTPB) promotion of the island.
